As many of you know, I love to travel and am constantly looking for new places to visit. This year, summer has melted away quickly, and I’m sure many of you have noticed the same! Here are some tips for taking last minute-summer trips on a budget:
- Travel locally: We have so many beautiful places right here in the Midwest that are often overlooked! From Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, to Hocking Hills in Ohio, there are plenty of places within driving distance that are full of options. - Rent: If you haven’t used HomeAway or AirBNB yet, now’s the time! Many of these owners slash their prices toward the end of summer to attract last-minute travelers. Not to mention, the average daily cost at one of these rentals is usually lower than hotels in the area.
- Use last minute booking sites: If you decide to fly, check out LastMinute and AirfareWatchdog to find the best last minute fare reductions on the major airlines, as well as accommodations and rental cars.
- Check out Groupon: Once you arrive, check out the local Groupons for the area. These range anywhere from restaurants to experiences, and sometimes have things you’d never think of!
I hope you enjoy these last few fleeting weeks of summer, and if you get the chance, jump in the car and take that trip!
